Equipment
- Large Bowl
- Mixing Bowl
- Spoon or Spatula
Ingredients
Classic Snow Cream
- 8 cups fresh, clean snow
- 1 cup milk whole milk or half-and-half recommended for richness
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 pinch salt optional, enhances flavor
Flavor Variations
- 2-3 tbsp cocoa powder for chocolate snow cream
- 2 tbsp peanut butter for peanut butter snow cream
- strawberry syrup or puree for strawberry snow cream
- 1/4 cup maple syrup for maple snow cream, adjust to taste
- 1-2 tsp instant coffee or espresso for coffee snow cream
Instructions
- Collect 8 cups of fresh, clean snow in a large bowl.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, sugar, vanilla extract, and salt (if using) until the sugar is mostly dissolved.
- Gradually pour the milk mixture over the snow. Use a spoon or spatula to gently fold the ingredients together. Do not overmix, as this can cause the snow to melt too quickly.
- Continue to add the milk mixture until you reach your desired consistency. Remember, the snow cream will melt quickly, so it’s best to serve it immediately.
- Scoop the snow cream into bowls and serve immediately. Add your favorite toppings, if desired.
Notes
Chill ingredients: Chill the milk and mixing bowl in the freezer for about 15-20 minutes before starting. Work quickly to prevent the snow from melting. Adjust sweetness to your liking. Use quality ingredients for best flavor. Be aware that even seemingly clean snow can contain contaminants. If you are concerned about the safety of using snow, consider making a similar dessert using shaved ice or crushed ice.
