Equipment
- Large Bowl
- Cast-Iron Skillet or Griddle
Ingredients
Naan Dough
- 2 cups All-Purpose Flour (250g)
- 1 teaspoon Instant Yeast (3g)
- 1 teaspoon Sugar (4g)
- 1/2 teaspoon Salt (3g)
- 3/4 cup Warm Water (180ml)
- 2 tablespoons Plain Yogurt (30g)
- 2 tablespoons Olive Oil (30ml)
Topping
- Melted Butter or Ghee For brushing
- Garlic, cilantro, sesame seeds Optional
Instructions
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, instant yeast, sugar, and salt.
- Add the warm water, yogurt, and olive oil. Mix until a shaggy dough forms. If the dough seems too dry, add a tablespoon of water at a time. On the other hand, if it is too sticky, add a tablespoon of flour.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl. Cover with a damp cloth or plastic wrap. Let it rest for 15-20 minutes.
- Divide the dough into 6-8 equal portions. Shape each portion into a ball. Then, cover the balls with a cloth to prevent them from drying out.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll each ball into an oval shape. Aim for about 6-8 inches long and 4-5 inches wide.
- Heat a cast-iron skillet or griddle over medium-high heat.
- Place a rolled-out naan on the hot skillet. Cook for 1-2 minutes. You’ll notice bubbles forming on the surface.
- Flip the naan and cook for another 1-2 minutes. The bottom should be lightly browned with some charred spots. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
- Brush the cooked naan with melted butter or ghee. Optionally, sprinkle with garlic, cilantro, or sesame seeds.
- Repeat with the remaining dough. Serve warm and enjoy!
