Cortado Recipe
A simple yet elegant coffee beverage consisting of espresso "cut" with a small amount of warm milk. Perfect for coffee aficionados who appreciate its simplicity and balance.
Equipment
- Espresso Machine
- Milk Frother (optional)
- Small Clear Glass (4-5 oz)
Ingredients
- 2 ounces Espresso Double shot
- 2 ounces Milk Whole milk recommended, or your choice of milk alternative
Instructions
- Brew a double shot of espresso using your espresso machine. Ensure the espresso is rich and concentrated. Pour it into your serving glass.
- Warm the milk using a milk frother or by heating it gently on the stovetop. Avoid scalding the milk. Aim for a temperature between 140-160°F (60-71°C).
- (Optional) If desired, froth the milk gently until it is smooth and velvety to create a light microfoam.
- Gently pour the warm milk over the espresso. Use roughly a 1:1 ratio of espresso to milk. Pour slowly to maintain the layers.
- Serve your cortado immediately and enjoy!
Notes
- Use freshly roasted coffee beans for the best flavor.
- Experiment with the espresso-to-milk ratio to find your preferred balance.
- Try different milk alternatives like almond, soy, or oat milk.
- For a touch of sweetness, add a teaspoon of honey or a dash of flavored syrup.
