Ingredients:

  • 4 cups (600g) fresh blackberries
  • 1/2 cup (100g) granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp (16g) cornstarch
  • 1 tbsp (15ml) lemon juice
  • 1/4 tsp (0.5g) ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup (113g) unsalted butter
  • 1 cup (125g) all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup (150g) granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp (7g) baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp (1.5g) salt
  • 3/4 cup (180ml) whole milk
  • 6 tbsp (85g) melted butter

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the sugar, cornstarch, and cinnamon.
  3. Fold in the fresh blackberries and lemon juice, tossing gently until every berry is coated.
  4. Place 1/2 cup (113g) of butter in a 9x13-inch baking dish and melt in the oven or microwave.
  5. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  6. Stir in the milk until just combined, leaving a few small lumps for texture.
  7. Carefully pour the batter directly over the melted butter in the baking dish; do not stir.
  8. Spoon the blackberry mixture over the batter and drizzle with the remaining 6 tbsp of melted butter.
  9. Bake for 60 minutes until the crust is golden brown and the berries are bubbling.
